Emily Orling | egg (2024)
oil on canvas
egg is a music theater piece created and performed by César Alvarez and Emily Orling. The piece invites the audience into the space of César and Emily's real-life collaboration and relationship which is a sticky soup of domesticity, children, neuroqueer kinship, non-normative embodiment, and interdimensionality as a daily practice. Emily’s visual art and poetry stands alongside César’s music in a ritual of recovery, clay, and cacophany.

Me and you
like a sack, attached to a tube, attached to a horn
like being a mule
like vomiting and mopping the floor at the same time
jaws clamped shut
swallowing the baby
